Garter Snake

of the Diablo Range variety

This curious garter (Thamnophis atratus zaxanthus) spent a fair amount of time following me about.  I missed a fantastic shot of the snake sun bathing on a rock in the middle of the creek, but managed several once it came to shore.

These were taken with the Hexanon 80-200mm F3.5 at a range just close enough to focus at approximately 300mm effective zoom (2x crop factor on the E-PL1).  A little soft, but couldn't resist the pose.
